King Tut's FA20Club.com Dyno Tuning Experience

Thanks:

I really want to thank these guys. Without their help, who knows where I would be with my turbo charged BRZ.

LJ @FullBlown Motorsports for building such a damn good turbo kit. He has always been there to answer my questions, and still well after the sale contacts me to see how the turbo kit is running.

Toni @FA20Club.com for finding the time in his busy schedule to dyno tune my car. He already wanted datalogs from the car before it was even off the dyno, and I know his support will continue to be there in the future.

David @Sportsguy83 for setting up the dyno tuning with Toni and hosting me in his house for the weekend. I also need to thank his wife for the great food.

Octane:

All numbers are on Florida 93 octane fuel.

The Story:

Ever since I bought the car,

FA20CLUB Innovate Supercharger Tuning, Parts, Improvements & Results

Well, to start off the unit is definitely well built. The power delivery is instant it seems like and pull steadily throughout the rpm range. As far as the down sides. The main issues we have encountered have been related to lack of intercooler, which really hurts those not blessed with 93 octane fuel in their area. This also limits current power limits because of the blower becoming a heat pump when increasing boost levels.

FINALLY DYNO TUNED! part 2

DYNO Video and Final Thoughts

Conclusion:

It is VERY important for all forum members to understand that installing a FI kit is not lilies and roses. It can be painful, hard, nerve wrecking and requires a good amount of $$ to get it right. There is a big bunch of mods that go around a FI kit that while not all of them are absolutely necessary, all work together to REALLY finalize a proper car build.

DONT be afraid to ask questions and make sure you understand everything, because there are some mistakes that just can't be undone.

If I had to do it again and in hindsight with what is available now, it wold be a painfully HARD decision but I THINK I would have chosen AVO again. The reason is when I initially chose AVO, I had certain goals for the car, and even though they changed as I modified it, AVO is still within them. I still love my AVO. Its an awesome kit, well made, easy to install and with great power delivery characteristics. I don't regret my decision one bit as I am VERY HAPPY with how my build came out.

If you want GREAT customer service, down to earth guy, great tunes, go with @FA20Club.com, it just doesn't get any easier than that!

Happy modding FT86 club. I hope my trial and errors help some members to avoid them.

FA20CLUB: GOOD REASON TO REMOVE YOUR TURBO KIT RIGHT AWAY....

Element Tuning boosted with FA20Club turbo kit
We at FA20Club wanted to share with your why our shop car is now without our turbo kit. When an opportunity arises sometime you have to make moves you don't want to. It was a sad day a couple weeks ago when I was forced at gun point j/k but Phil @ElementTuning (Hydra EMS) needed some help in a short time frame, due to the over whelming orders we had for our turbo kits FA20Club wasn't able to get him a kit in time due in part by his short deadline. We at FA20Club still wanted to help him out so as option FA20Club  offered to pull the kit from our personal shop car for him to meet his races. Since he asked up less than 2 weeks for a kit and transit time considered it felt it was a more favorable option than delaying our retail customers. Well the next business day we removed the FA20Club 60 trim turbo kit packed it up and it shipped it our for Phil at Element Tuning. With little over a week to go and installation tuning and building the rest of the car still to be done we all crossed our fingers. They made it and DAMN did they impress taking the win in the unlimited Class without hitting the dyno. The turbo screams and its the 60 trim you can hear the gate responding quite frequently to throttle input in the video. Please enjoy some of the photos and video by Element Tuning.

FA20CLUB 4-1 EL STAINLESS STEEL HEADER

With the finalization for the FA20Club header designed for the FR-S, BRZ, and GT86 the news is out with the results of this header tested a few weeks back. We are continuing to promote this quality header for all the members of the forum. Will a simplistic design that yields tons of power and eliminates the low end TQ dip while still managing to kick it into high gear in the rest of the rpm range.

ECUTEK Software on board....

After making the final decision to join the ECUTEK team were were extremely excited to get down and dirty tuning the FA20. From common results we had seen up to this point we say some easy improvements After making a few baseline runs it was obvious where these gains were to be had. What were observed was an engine that runs extremely rich @WOT. At redline the AFR was actually 11.2:1 on our baseline runsl never exceeding 12.3:1. So first thing to be done was to remove some of the excess fuel under heavy load.

The powerband easily jumped up after tweaking the fuel table a bit. That was the easy part though. Now it was time to get down to the finer aspects of refining our tune. The major issue with this car is that nasty dip heading into 4k rpm and exiting. After looking intot he cam angle tables there were some variances that made this more dramatic than it had to be not to mention the injector phasing between the direct and the port around the same rpm range.

We look forward to working on the Scion FRS, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86. After about 6 hours testing and teaking we had come up with a satisfactory tune for the A/T transmission FA20, Onto the manual......
